The many dangers of distracted driving

People living in Florida understand that responsible driving keeps other drivers, passengers, pedestrians and property safe. Unfortunately, new technologies provide significant opportunities for distraction. As a result, there has been an increase in accidents caused by drivers paying attention to electronic devices instead of the road.

Thirty years ago, there was a significant effort in the United States to raise awareness of the problems of drunk driving. While many drivers are now scrupulous about not getting behind the wheel after having even just one drink, they may still think nothing of checking a text message or answering the phone while their are cars moving. in fact, a report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety showed that 88 percent of millennials engage in distracted driving behaviors.

The reality is that such inattention can lead to car accidents, some of which may be fatal or lead to permanent disability for their victims. While the driver may have in no way intended to cause harm, victims who survive such a crash may have to struggle to recover physically, emotionally and financially. They may face many months or even years of physical therapy as well as ongoing struggles with insurance claims. The families of people who die in such crashes may also struggle with their loss for many years.

Individuals and families who have been impacted by distracted driving may benefit from speaking with an experienced personal injury attorney. Counsel may be able to review the client's case and offer suggested strategies for working with insurance companies and receiving appropriate compensation for the losses that have been sustained.
